Summer Curriculum Pamphlet

Monday, April 23, 2018

Hello friends and families,

The children have had a wonderful start back to the term and goodness, they have grown, both in height and maturity.

We look forward to discovering many things in our new topic People Who Help Us. The children have been busy role-playing in our vet’s surgery and being creative in many other ways. They have also started back their first two weeks by learning about doubling in Maths, and begun looking at spellings of the /oe/ sound in Phonics.

We are lucky enough to continue having Sue Merryfield come in to do cooking with us each Tuesday and will restart Hartbeeps in the second summer half-term.

Please find the curriculum pamphlet for the Summer term linked below.

We look forward to the rest of our term and all of the adventures it may bring.

Reception class.

Hello from the Reception class!

Monday, February 5, 2018

This post is being written by the class themselves. They would like to tell everybody what they have been up to.

Before we start, one child would like to add that the class has been very well-behaved.

In the last week, we have been working on patterns. We have made repeated patterns with blocks and we have sung repeated patterns as well. Your children would love to sing a repeated pattern for you at home.

From the Reception Class.

Welcome to the Spring Term

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

Welcome back for another term in Reception class!

This term we are working on an ‘Under the Sea’ theme. We will be comparing creatures both in the sea and out and this will lead us onto participating in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch at the end of January. The children have already started looking out for different types of birds that they see in and around the school grounds, and we encourage you to do the same at home. At lunch time today we were lucky enough to spot a Red Kite and the children were full of stories about the different types of birds they have seen in their gardens at home.

Perhaps dreaming about days by the seaside will help warm us up as we move into Spring. We will be looking at seasonal changes as the days get longer and warmer and bulbs start to sprout in our Early Years garden.

We are also very lucky to have Sue Merryfield continue to come in and help us on Tuesday afternoons, doing cooking with the children. They all enjoy this immensely.

PE sessions are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons this term and your child’s PE kit can remain in school for the duration of the half-term.

The Reception children have shown such big changes in their maturity since the start of the school year and we are so proud of the fantastic progress they are making.

Welcome to our Reception Autumn Term

Thursday, September 7, 2017

Hello to all of our new class members and their families.

We have a lot of fun lined up for the Autumn term, learning together and enjoying ourselves in the process. Our first week will involve some special ‘mix-up’ days with the rest of the school, along with settling in activities to help the children get to know their new setting/teachers and feel comfortable.

Next week we will begin some very basic and child-friendly assessments to start building each child’s learning journey. All children will have a book and reading pack sent home by the end of our second week, which we hope you will enjoy sharing together.

Our Working Together Meeting will take place at 2.30 pm on Wednesday 20th September, where we hope to see as many families as possible. At this meeting we will discuss ways in which you can support your child, and us, in helping them get the most from their education at St Lawrence C of E Primary School.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Second Autumn half-term

Monday, November 7, 2016

Welcome back to the classroom after a well-earned break for half-term. We have been working hard on our phonics and we are also beginning to use the operations of addition and subtraction. Last week our class learnt about the celebration of Diwali with the children from Year 1 and 2. We made paper elephants, painted firework displays, made  and tasted chapattis and created rangoli patterns with coloured rice.

We will continue with our Spinning Through Space topic up until the Christmas break, alongside all of our Christmas festivities.
