Information about School Closures
As you know, we usually manage to stay open unless the snow is really deep! On days when we may need to consider closing, please look for this information in one of two ways;

1. A text from the school
2. The County Council website –
Click on the “is my school open today” tab and the next page gives a link to a list of all schools.

Absence  Procedure
We aim to have very good attendance for all pupils at St Lawrence. However, if pupils are unwell they should not be in school.

To enable us to complete registers accurately and carry out our safeguarding functions, it is vital that you communicate information about absence as soon as possible.

When your child is absent it is important to call the office to inform school between 8.30 and 9.00 a.m. on the first day of absence. Another call on the second day would be appreciated to inform if the absence is likely to be longer term. This should also be followed up with a letter or a note in your child’s home/school liaison book.   Absence for longer than a week due to illness may require a Doctor’s note.

In September 2015 the government raised the threshold for persistent absence from 85% to 90% and we  closely monitor pupils who are not achieving this.  Should your child’s attendance fall below 90%, a referral will be made to the Education Welfare team.

Holidays in term time:
Holiday during term time will not be authorised unless in exceptional circumstances.  If you take your child out of school for a holiday in term time you may be subject to a penalty notice.
