Vacancies

Foundation Governor

In 2018 St. Lawrence and Christopher Reeves Schools Federated and now instead of a Governing Body in each school there is now a Governing Board that has overall responsibility for both schools.

The Governing Board has a Constitution which allows for fourteen Governors. These are Foundation; Staff; Parent and Local Authority Rep. Governors. Currently there are vacancies on the Board for Foundation Governors.

Foundation Governors are one of the distinguishing characteristics of Church schools. They represent the historic link with the original establishment of the school and its distinctive religious ethos, and like all governors they are entrusted with the responsibility for formulating policies which produce well-managed schools. Their duties, along with the other Governors, cover monitoring the curriculum, finance, personnel and premises to ensure that the schools function efficiently, for the benefit of the children’s education.

The governing board has three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and the performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Board are therefore inviting applications from anyone who may be interested in becoming a Foundation Governor. There will be forms to complete as listed below (Appendix 1 – application form

Although no special qualifications are needed to be a Governor, all prospective Foundation Governor nominees are requested to fill out a skills audit (Appendix 2), as well as the nomination form, as part of their application. This is so that the relevant Church Council can benchmark applicants and consider any specialist skills that may be required by the Governing Board, as part of the appointment process. (e.g. Finance, HR, Education, Buildings Maintenance, Legal, IT etc.)

Training will be available for all governors and there will be a requirement for the successful candidate to complete a short mandatory governor induction. There is also the expectation that governors abide by the Qualifications and Disqualifications (Appendix 3). New governors will have to declare relevant business interests and these will be published on the school’s website and follow the Code of Conduct (Appendix 4). All appointments are subject to the successful completion of a DBS and Section 128 check.

If you are eligible to be a Foundation governor, and would like to be considered by the relevant PCC please initially contact pcameron@chellingtonfed.org.uk. (Chair of Governors) before submitting any forms so the full process can be explained.
