Welcome to Owls Class! The class teacher is Mrs Cox.

Curriculum

In Year 3 and Year 4, we cover a range of topics that cover Humanities (History and Geography).

These are:

• Volcanoes
• Stone Age to Iron Age
• Rainforests
• The Mayans
• The Victorians
• Local area

Every term, there are Knowledge Organisers which outline the learning that will take place that term. As well as being available to view on this website, they are also sent out via Parentmail at the start of each half term. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD LEARN

Homework

Maths and English homework is sent out every week. This goes out on a Thursday and is expected back on the following Tuesday, completed to a high standard. Should your child need any extra support with this please see the class teacher who can help. The homework is based on what the children have been learning in class that week or revision of work from the half-term. The English homework usually consists of learning spellings and showing an understanding by writing in to sentences.

Spelling tests are carried out weekly on Thursdays.

 

In year 3 the children learn the 3, 4, 6 and 8 times tables. In year 4 they learn up to 12 x 12. In the summer term of year 4 the children take the national times tables test. To make sure that your child's knowledge is secure, please practise at home. The children have individual log-ins for Times Tables Rockstars which they enjoy playing and below are some additional websites that will help prepare the children because they are timed:  https://www.timestables.co.uk/speed-test/ https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/  Having a secure knowledge of the times tables in year 3 and 4 is essential. It will help them to be confident as they move up to years 5 and 6, when they have to use their knowledge of times tables to learn long multiplication and convert fractions.

Every child in year 3 and 4 has a reading record. This is to be used to record when they read. Every child needs to be reading for at least 20 minutes each night, whereby they record it in their record book. Listening to them read and discussing the story, characters and vocabulary will help them to develop their inference skills in reading. Once they finish reading their reading book, they take a quiz in school. We encourage children to read a range of text types and authors. 

PE

PE takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children come to school on these days dressed in their P.E. kit. The children need to be able to remove their own earrings and long hair will need to be tied back.

Music

At the end of the autumn term and the first half of the spring term, Owls class learn how to play the steel pans. Parents will be invited to a short concert at the end of the school day near to February half term, where the children can showcase their learning.
